1. Watch Kapa Haka
Its the Maori new year so we need to watch a Maori dance right? Because all the other cultures that come to the festival they will know how the Maori dance.
2. Food
Most people go to places if there's food so the festival has presented a hangi for everyone.
3. seven stars
Look in the sky for the seven stars either with a telescope or with naked eyes.

The Matariki festival is one of my all-time favourite events in the calendar. I love it because it is a special time for our family. My son, Aronui, was born during Matariki so we get the chance to celebrate the start of a new year for him and a new year in the Maori calendar. It's a 'win-win!'
Speaking of wins, I am in the process of counting points and I will be coming into Glen Innes next Friday to hand out the certificates and prizes for the Winter Learning Journey programme. I'm really looking forward to seeing you then!
