Omaru creek Metaphor Poems - Te Taiao o Tāmaki

Zain is the greasy rubbish in the Omaru Creek.

Zain is the sparkling water in the other side of the Creek.

Zain is the water that flows as slow as a snail.

Today I played a game that you have to match the fractions. The main goal of this  game is remembering the fractions. And you need to know the equivalent fractions. I set a great time being the best in the class. This was a really fun and easy activity so do check it out at interactive sites for education.

Silhouette cabbage tree - Te Taiao o Tāmaki

Screenshot 2017-03-21 at 2.29.38 PM.png

Last week we made a silhouette cabbage tree. We had a choice of drawing cabbage trees or a bulrushes. We found the cabbage tree and bulrush on the banks of Omaru Creek so we decided to do art on this. As you can see my one isn’t top quality but it works for me. We first painted the pink and the orange. Then I drew the cabbage trees then we painted them black. Have you been to Omaru Creek?

Today room 8 investigated the volleyball in our class. We used a spreadsheet to write all the details down and we used online tools to get these graphs. We first went outside to play and we did 5 different drills. We had 10 tries to do that drill. I got 7/10 in volley, I got 5/10 in dig, In serve I got 8 I had powerful hits even when i'm the skinniest in class. In spike I got 4/10 and lastly I got 7/10 in block. How would you rate yourself from 1 to 10?

Dragonflies for Omaru Creek - Te Taiao o Tāmaki

Today we made Dragonflies because it was related to our topic. If dragonflies fly around a creek then it is healthy and at Omaru creek doesn't have any dragonflies. Our school will make a bigger one for the creek. This one was only for our classroom wall.

Get NZ writing - Package opened

BeFunky Collage.jpg

Today our classroom received a parcel from Grey Main School. We sent ours last friday and we received theirs yesterday but we opened it today. This was like a little event in NZ to get New Zealand writing. I found that their weather wasn’t similar to us because their school is in the south island at Greymouth. Their poems were wonderful but we struggled to read it. The thing that I was most interested was at their class picture. Did your school participate in this event?

Parcel to Grey Main School

We are 1 out of 3000 schools to get New Zealand writing. We had to send a parcel filled with information  to a school in the south island. Their school is Grey Main School. I enjoyed myself writing all these Metaphor poems.

Walt:  conduct a statistical investigation.

We used google maps to determine the walking  distance to 124 Apirana Avenue. This is the entrance to the Omaru Creek that we are studying. The screenshot shows the route, distance and time from my house to the creek. If I had to walk from my house to school then the distance would be 4.8 km. And it will take me 59 minutes to get to school but in car it takes me 11 minutes. I live the Furthest from the creek. Jolie lives the closest at 550m. Harrison lives in East Tamaki so we gave him a home at the glen innes station. So it took him 550m from the train station.Next, we will be calculating the mean and the median. The average or mean distance of the 5 people in my group is 1970m. The median walking distance in the whole classroom is 10. The mode is 1.3km and 1.0km.

What I accelerated in week 5

]

I accelerated in my maths. I learnt how to use the algorithm like a professional. My group learnt how to do algorithms in addition and subtraction but I know addition, subtraction and multiplication. Now all I need to do is to learn division.
